Hi all, I've been reading man posts from all you good folks. Finally I have a question that I have not been able to locate. I recently purchased a light project car. Of course, the 1996 Montero SR. I am replacing the entire exhaust system since the R. Manifold is broke and the rest looks equally bad. I purchased everything but the exhaust pipe R., and exhaust pipe L. first out from the manifolds. Does anyone know the MR numbers? I can contact the dealership tomorrow but thought I could find it here first. Along with the collective knowledge of vendors other than mitsubishi. But having replaced the manifold in my 2001 and replaced the exhaust, the jig was way off from an aftermarket supplier.

I tried looking up those parts under my '95's VIN, but when I double-clicked on the part it said "no information." It appears that the stock pipes were partly pre-cats. You may have to have a shop use the original flanges and make a new set of pipes to fit. The pre-cats only serve to light off the main catalytic converter faster and aren't really necessary in that a fully warmed up truck will still pass an emissions sniffer.

Thanks Johnny, S.O.B. your right, just looked under and no cats...interesting.
If you must get OEM do you purchase from a dealership? What to do? What to do? Buy OEM with cats, cast new ones or hope the current pieces will hold up for 5 years. No emission tests in Michigan-thankfully. I appreciate the input and will keep it updated with results. Thanks, Brian

When the ASA program turns up "no information," I'm not so sure the parts are even available any more. I'd say just have an exhaust shop make you some new ones.
Mitsu would charge a TON of money for precats...if they are even available. I'd guess over $1000. Your best bet is to make your own, pull some from a junkyard, or look on here.
You don't even want them. I'll be drilling mine out soon.

Right, I saw that! not a bad price I live in Detroit and my mechanic is aces. Not with Mitsu per se, but is fluent in cars. Finding someone to make replacements shouldn't be hard around here. Question: The Mitsu has a Jasper motor and I would like to learn more from you folks. Should I start a new thread or find a thread about Jasper and wait for responses? I already did the latter from a thread from 2010 and no responses. If your interested I posted picture attachments before I owned her-still in a crappy lot in Ohio to and most recently from yesterday. WIP. Thanks for the advice, Brian

I'm curious as to why you'd order any exhaust parts other than the manifold from Mitsu. Taking it to an exhaust shop and having them build you a new exhaust system would be far cheaper than paying for the OEM parts.
