The arm on the torsion bar, that is. The other end slid right off the splines. I have a feeling it is pressed on, but wanted to make sure before i try any harder to get it off.

I held the bar and used a 2-pound something rubber mallet to persuade the end off.

Mine slide off fairly easily when I reindexed them.

Reminds me of the way to separate a birfield from the inner axle on a Toyota. Get a metal tube/pole long enough and bigger than the torsion bar but not bigger than the bracket you're trying to remove. Just drop it in there from a height. Inertia should separate the two ;-)

It took some effort but it came off. I used Geo's idea and slid some nice heavy .250 DOM over the bar and used it as a slide hammer.

Then a little trimming for it's new application. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Thanks again.

Awesome! Glad that worked out for you. On the Toyota's we'd drop the inner axle into the tube and the birfield would hit really hard, and inertia would break the clip inside the birfield and the inner axle would fall right out. Then you'd tack weld then grind down a spot on the splines to keep it from going too far into the birfield... neat hack on those. Did a disk brake conversion on a FJ55 that way. But that's for another forum.

So, what are you going to use that for?

Got the idea here. I currently run no swaybars and my rear axle is articulating more than the front. A swaybar will stiffen the rear and make the front flex more, and improve road manners at the same time.

Got started on one of the arms today. This one will bolt to the control arm end.
