Do you need to run a fpr with a weber carb? The monty I picked up is a slow pig and just doesn't want to run smoothly, esp in accelerating. If you give it gas,it is feeling choked up but if you back off some,it runs ok. we had a mighty max 4x4 last year that ran horrible and installed a fpr and diealed in the correct pressure and it woke up and ran perfectly.

Stock fuel pressure is about 7lbs, weber requires no more than 2lbs, or even 1.5. There are folks here who run without a fpr, but when I do the weber conversion, I'll be using a fpr.
And I just have to add: "Trust me, I know what I'm doing." <booooom>

here is what the monty does with NO FPR installed: 1st gear...pulls fine 2nd gear,if I give it to much pedal,it breaks up,half throttle it will pull ok 3rd gear, same thing as 2nd. 4th,will pull fine, doesn't sputter but feels like it's not wuite there yet. 5th gear will zoom along, but going up hill, even slightly,i feel the sputter coming along and have to drop back to 4th.
with fpr...I went thru ever psi starting with 1lb,it is un driveable...breaks up with the pedal p[ressed,if I give it half throttle,it runs fine but it can't pull a hill.

Well, I'm certainly no carb expert but what you're describing sound to me like a great reason for a rebuild and a thorough cleaning.

I knew the truck was new to you, but I did not realize the carb was brand new. They typically don't run that badly even if they need tuning. Have you checked timing etc?

Have you checked timing etc? yeah, carb is about 6 months old,i would hope a rebuild isn't needed so soon. Timing is something I need to check. I did drive it day before last...with no fpr....and it drove lik I described above.I stopped at a store, got a drink, and took off and it ran perfectly. No spitting/sputtering ad it pulled a hill like it should.Ran like this for about 20 minutes then went back to the cutting out issues.

Check the float system inside the carb - it sounds like it's running out of gas. You may have a needle valve that's sticking or an incorrect float level setting. There's also possibly some debris floating around in your float bowl that could be intermittently clogging a jet. Do you have a quality fuel filter on it that's been replaced recently?
I don't think you should need a FPR with the stock fuel pump, it's designed for a carburetor and shouldn't be able to overpower the float valve in your Weber.
