Body Damage is Cool

About a month ago I used Irontite (red cap, not blue) liquid ceramic head gasket repair. Flushed engine real good,,,refilled with filtered water, slowly added the stuff , fast idled a half hour the drove it around and over the mountain. Drain block, all the way by pulling out block drains. It should have cured properly. Flushed with H20 and then added the h2o coolant,,,done , I thought.
Water usasage stopped for 3 weeks/ 300 miles.
Last Sunday I was steaming like a locomotive. Water also spewing to outside at cyl. 5.
Drove home 5 miles and by then about a quart of H20 was in the pan.
I'm worry about residue of ceramic being in oil now.
After this 19th nervous breakdown,,I'm gonna drain oil refill with ATF and idle till warm,,let it sit a day and drain ATF and h20 out,,,,and plan for non-op licence untill I deside what to do.
All opinions and prayers and pokes welcome.

Not to be super negative here, but did you really think that head gasket fix in a bottle was going to be a long term solution? <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/scared.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />

a head gasket job really isn't too bad. I've never done one before, but did it on my gen 2.5 earlier this year. Just give yourself some time, and make sure you get the old gasket material cleaned off real good.

better to do it now than after an overheat. Plus while you have the heads off, you can do the valve seals much easier

Agreed - I've never come across any "fix in a bottle" that ultimately didn't do more harm than good. Your only choice at this point is to repair it properly and hope that your bottom end hasn't been damaged. I think your flushing plan sounds like a good start, hopefully your bearings are still in decent shape.

Well, yea, I have had great success with the KW block seal. A friend borrowed my truck way back when, overheated it in the hills of CA, and limped it home blowing steam out the radiator.

I used the KW block seal and ran it for 2+ years that way as a work truck in Los Angeles. finally did the rehab of the truck, found two cracked cylinders and decided to get a new block.

That is another story, but the block seal worked great.

You do have to isolate the hole that is blowing, and pull that plug. A bit unnerving, but works.
