I'm going to replace my shocks and springs and was planning on going with ome but have read a few threads saying there not all that great. I have no plans of lifting my truck and plan on 31x10.5 tire . What's your advice?

Howdy! Shocks: KYB Gas-a-justs. Springs- no lift needed for 31's smile Unless you're just looking for height, in which case I don't know. 31's fit great on gen1's like my Raider and there's no rubbing and it looks just right. Higher isn't necessarily better, anyway.

1987 Raider, 346K miles and going strong -31" tires, otherwise stock.

If you're not looking to lift your vehicle, why do you want to replace the springs? Unless they're sagging there really is no need to get rid of the originals. If they are sagging then another pair of OEM springs is all you need.

I've got OME springs on my Gen II and couldn't be happier with their ride and performance. What sold me on them originally was that throughout my research, OME was the only company I found that actually engineered their products specifically for the Monteros, and designed & tested their shocks and springs as a package to work together. Most shock manufacturers that have shocks that "fit" Monteros are not specifically tuned for them - they'll make a shock that physically matches the original shocks and select an off-the-shelf damping rate based on the weight of the vehicle and the stock spring rates.

I'm looking at replacing the springs because the truck has 275,000 miles on it and they are sagging pretty good.

A set of Gen II rear springs would work well for you - they are progressive rate instead of constant rate like the original Gen I springs, and they'll give you a 1/2"-3/4" lift over stock.

I believe they are a direct replacement.

Walker Renton Mitsubishi used to be the go-to for online Mitsu parts but my link for them goes to a NJ dealership now. Bruce Titus Mitsu is online here; http://www.mitsubishiparts.net/partlocator/index.cfm?siteid=218241 but you might be able to find lower prices at other online dealers. You might also try to find the best price online then see if your local dealer will match that.

Checking the used parts listings on this forum or your local Craigslist could nab you some used ones for far less - I sold my originals for $50 when I upgraded to OME.

Getting the Wheeling Fever
I'll put in my vote for:

for new OEM parts. Guys are great, pretty good discount off list price, and they will find what you need even if it means checking stock in Japan. It can take 2-12 weeks to get a part out of Japan, though. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" />

Roll Me Over
I used to work in the Olympia area a few times a year. There was a decent pull your own parts place near Tumwater. Seems like it was very near a small airport. That would be the cheapest way to go. Seem to recall one down near Tenino also. Pulled parts from both and carried them home on the plane.
