Hello everybody it's been a while since i have posted in here, my 99 Montero has developed a clunk in the front suspension, i noticed it while turning left or right especially when the body of the truck leans to either side, also when the truck is stationary and i turn the steering wheel left or right. The sound is like a snap or a thump. Last year i installed new KYB monomax shocks, upper and lower ball joints and CV axles, Truck has 203K miles. Any other suspension parts prone to wear at this mileage?.

Check both the idler and Pitman arms, having a helper turn the wheels while you're underneath should allow you to see if there's any slop in either. Take a look at the tie rods, too.
A bit harder to see, but I'd also be closely inspecting the a-arm bushings. Uppers take most of the wear.

If the upper control arm bushings are shot, I may have found a polyurethane replacement instead of having to replace the upper control arms. I need to get a shop to press them in to see if they are indeed the correct part, but it looks like they will work. Part# W52969 from Whiteline suspension.
My 6 month old aftermarket (Dorman) upper control arm bushings are toast on the passenger side already, so I'm going to rebuild the OEM arms with poly bushings to get rid of the clunk I've got going on.

Also check the anti-sway bar end bushings. They're rubber and will decay over time and may need replacing. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />

I have the exact same issue with my 99. I've replaced idler, pitman, drivers side ball joints (more so to fix steering slack), stabilizer bar links.
As I looked at the control arm bushings, they do look a little cracked, I'm sure they need to be replaced next.
I'm at 126k miles

Thanks for the suggestions, i checked all the steering components and i could clearly see and hear the noises coming from both the idler and pitman arms, i just order them along with the inner outer tie rod ends from rock auto. I dont think i can get the puller around the pitman arm with the steering gear box in place, i might have to at least loosen all the bolts on the gear box and try to move it away from the frame. Has anybody tackled this project? I'm open to suggestions. Many thanks.

I dont think i can get the puller around the pitman arm with the steering gear box in place, I replaced the pitman with a puller I borrowed from autozone. It's the traditional "C" puller. Worked great! Be ready to do an alignment after you do the work :-)
