First, my demise has been greatly exaggerated ! I'm still rolling in the Gen 2.5.

I'm assuming my alternator died as my volts are reading 9 on the gauge. I'm going to test it tonight when I get home.

battery = 12.6 volts with engine off
battery = 13.8 volts with engine running
battery = 12.6 volts with engine running and high beams on

Conclusion, daylight savings killed my truck

Hey Les
Is there oil leaking onto the alternator? If so you will have to deal with that first. If no leak have the battery tested, if OK have the alternator tested, if bad have it rebuilt. It only takes a day to rebuild one if you show some tears and tell them you are in a bad way. The ones from the parts store seem to not last very long.

Sorry I can't help you. I've move further away, I'm now in Livermore.

Don't go to Autozone or you will be swapping it out twice.

I have a local rebuild shop. Looks like a bear to get at, fan shroud, fan, airbox, two serpentine belts. Looks like I'll have to drop the skids to get at the bottom tensioner. Not exactly 2.6 room under the hood.

Les, I just did mine. Yes, drop the front skid, then you can loosen the bolt in the center of the idler pulley and then loosen the tensioner bolt and remove the belt. You don't have to remove any other belt or the fan shroud; at least I didn't, but I have a body lift and it may have made a difference, I don't know.

Take out the air box. After you remove the air filter and the top section of the box, there are three bolts that hold the bottom section in. Check the grommet thing that seals the box to the fender, as mine was distorted to the point that I re-did it with some weather strip I had laying around.

From your newfound clearance area, take out the alternator mounting bolt and the one that connects the alt to the tensioner, then remove the wires (you did remove the negative battery cable first, didn't you?). In the course of trying to get the alternator out through the top you may have to remove a power steering line bracket and move the shield around the top of the power steering belt at the top. It's tight in there.

I put in a rebuild, because I'm crazy like that. I kept my old one and may have it rebuilt, but I bought some time at any rate.

Good to see you back on here.
