I need to have a Evap Emissions control system on my 87 monty with a starion engine swap. I can not find a new stock replacement vapor canister for a starion and doubt I have any room to mount it anyway. Does any one know of what vehicles have a more compact vapor canister that might work? Preferably with mounting holes. I don't have any junk yards near me to check for myself.
I have the starion purge valve already but not sure how to hook up to the air intake because I have a k&n air filter housing with only one port that is being used by the oil separator. I hope if I tee into that port the vapors will be evacuated sufficiently. It doesn't have to work great because it only needs a visual inspection but if I'm going to the trouble it might as well work.
I also need a catalytic converter as well. How far from the turbo can I mount it? I was thinking of just putting it in place of my muffler but I am afraid it will be to far away to heat up properly with the 2 1/2 exhaust. I have my wideband installed about where the stock montero cat was and don't want to move it too much closer to the turbo.
I miss living in Florida where none of this matters. We are taking the truck to Taiwan for our next post and won't be subjected to actual emissions testing besides a visual one when it goes thru customs. I hope they don't expect an egr system too.

I have a spare can like shown in Russell's photo. Removed from my '88 for the diesel swap. Let me know if you need it. Probably have the brackets too.

Thanks I might take you up on that, but I might have to mount it someplace else as my air filter housing takes up too much space in the stock location. Will you send the dimensions of the canister? I am also afraid of using a used canister because when mine was stock it deposited all the charcoal into the carb. Not sure if it was hooked up correctly or not but don't want to chance sucking any into the turbo.
Hey Russell, Is that cruise control on your MM? If so I am jealous. I really need a way to keep my speed down or at least steady on the highway. I am only getting about 13 mpg at best because I always find myself going over 80mph. I guess that is not too bad as it would barely get over 60 mph and only got 15 mpg with accelerator to the floor when it was stock. Im sure the ingested charcoal didn't help

I guess I should have previewed the response. My first pic was HUGE!

Yes, the MM has cruise control. However, do not be jealous. The unit works, but remember the action/reaction is set up to control a carb, not the more sensitive EFI. I could probably 'fix' that by changing the cable pulley.
My turbo setup returns about 18 mpg with 3.91 gears, mixed driving in the Cali flats, and 31" tires. I don't like the high gearing and may change to the Montero 4.625 set I have laying about.
