Hi everybody! I just picked up my 1987 Montero on Saturday. I've been looking for one that fit my budget (cheap) for awhile. It's not running and the PO said it was due to electrical problems, I'm keeping my fingers crossed! <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />

Tony G, It was the brown one from Perris. Overall really clean. I started replacing corroded cables and bad splices when I noticed the loose valve cover! It all looks good under it so I've ordered a new gasket and going to try and fire it up this weekend. Right now what my goal is to get it on the road with a few cosmetic fix's then I'm thinking torsion crank, body lift, re arc the rears and run some 31". I really have to watch the budjet on this one for awhile.

31" tires will fit without any work needed.

Lots of tire information here:

To be honest, I would rather run 33" but I am a little concerned about loss of power with the stock 4 banger. Has anyone noticed an appreciable difference?

Still don't need to lift, only minor trimming of front bumper ends and gentle push on the sheetmetal at the leading edge of the front inner fenderwell.

I've had 3 sets of 33" tires on my Raider. My Raider was a daily driver work vehicle that traveled often from Sacramento to Lake Tahoe to Kirkwood and back down the mountain, and sometimes twice in a day. Yes, I wanted a bit more power to pull the hills, then to stop (i.e. bigger braking), but I never had trouble maintaining 70-ish MPH in the flats. The overall fuel consumption per tank was very similar.

I use these pictures perhaps too much, but they demonstrate 33" all terrains and muds using the stock setup.

Note to picture above: I had the bumpers removed as I was sorting out installation of hitches on front and rear.

Thx for the info rxinhed. Nice rig. I guess I would just like to do a small lift. Tire size, I'll probably go thru Craigslist and find whatever deal I can! Good to know about the power though, thanks again.
