I'm hoping someone can help me out with this. I am replacing my coil do to what looks like corrosion (extreme discoloration)on the distributor wire port. I thought I was doing OK taking notes and all, but, just like the proverbial homework excuse, "the dog ate my paper" I guess I shouldn't have used my burrito wrapper to make notes on. Anyways, I was hoping someone with an 87' could take a picture of their coil or tell me which lead go's where. Thanks guy's

From the 87 fsm, vol 2 page 8-53, Ignition system:
To coil - : WL/B, 1.25L To coil + : unknown color wire from top of resistor To bottom of resistor: 2BW, 1.25BW to top of resistor: 2BW
color codes: B=black W=white L=blue R=red
The numbers represent the thickness of the wire, bigger number is fatter wire in mm^2 x-section.
2BW will be hot in ign run, 2BR is hot in ign start only. 1.25BW and 1.25L come from the dizzy. WL/B goes to tach.
The resistor drops the coil voltage in run to prevent coil overheating. If you use an aftermarket Accel Supercoil, you can delete the resistor and run 2BR and 2BW straight to the coil+.

Thanks Fasteddy, I picked up a Chiltons that covers 83 thru 85 and it didn't have any info on the coil. What manual is the "fsm"? I've printed out your legend and will give it a try this weekend. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />

Use the Chiltons manual for kindling Yes, it is much too abrasive for the only other possible use.
