Gonna be painting my hubs. Any diy paint/primer recommendations? I'm talking rattle can diy.

Can they simply be clear coated?

If not then I'm thinking an epoxy primer with a rustoleum paint on top. Any suggestions?

TIA!

Do you like powder coating instead, like Russ did on his?

Otherwise, thorough cleaning and a non-rattle can epoxy paint like dishwashers, washers, etc. could be a good compromise.

Cause I didn't want to wait for them... Thought a rattle can option might be doable.

Was it wabfab who Russ recommended?

Ah, yes. The Wait.

I'd clean the visible surfaces best. If you have the hubs off and disassembled, use a fine steel wool and WD40 to clean up loose bits. A good cleaning in solvent to remove the WD40 and you're about ready. Krylon sells a spray epoxy is several colors. I used some red to create a candy finish on a Schwinn bike many many many years ago.

Your suggestion of clear is good for this. Make sure to leave adequate cure time between coats. Warm and sunny day on an asphalt paved surface can act like a kiln, too.

Why paint them? They look good when clean up and you won't have that HEY look at me look.

So they don't rust like they were when we cleaned them up originally! Duh!

Anyway, I was thinking of either painting them with a simple clear coat or silver...

Body Damage is Cool
I polished my Asians and there isn't the slightest sign of any rust in 3 months.(of course, we're in the desert)
