I have seen some conversions listed here for the GenII Monty, but no follow up. Does anyone know how the 2.4 NA performs compared to the 3.0? How is the mileage? Off-road performance?

Are there any details on the swap?

I have seen one current post on here for a turbo 2.0/2.4 hybrid which I am not as interested in. I am looking at something a little less complicated. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

I did find his thread, but it was not very detailed and left off with "I will post the details later".

My bad, that happens to me some times, i wouldn't put a 2.4 in a gen 2 unless it was chopped like mine was ( extreme weight loss) or if the 2.4 being swapped in was the 16V 2.4 from a Montero Sport. The 16V motor has almost as much power as a 12V 3.0.

Otherwise in a Gen SWB it's a great Motor. JohnnyB is doing this swap right now. Az Crew is kind of notorious for doing a bunch of swaps and modifications with little or no documentation -see PA_JERO's SAS.

"Hopefully," I'll have a first-hand report of the 2.4 (from a 1990 Mighty Max, eight valve) in my '86 in a week or two. It runs, just not real well yet. With as many hassles as it has been, at least it was a bolt up and gave me the opportunity to ditch the three speed Torque Flite auto for the KM-148. For now I'm keeping the too-tall '86 differential gears but I have a set of 4.625's for when the time comes, like when I reboot the half shafts and everything else is ripped apart anyway.

Its the easiest ways to repower a SWB ...I've done three 2.4 8v SWB swaps works great ...I bet the 2,4 12v runs real well... Toasty who ended up with your bob job Gen2 swb...?

A dude who lived down the street from me, but he let a friend drive it offroad and it was rolled a down a long hill or into a ravine and destroyed. So ultimately a junkyard somewhere.

The power ratings I could find on the old interwebs show a couple of 2.4l power outputs (16V of course)

2.4l 132hp @ 5500 148lbs/ft @ 2750 Montero Sport
2.4l 141HP @ 5500 148lbs/ft @ 3000 Galant (narrow block)
2.4l 145HP @ 5500 152lbs/ft 2 2750 GCC Pajero

3.0l 151hp @ 5000 174lbs/ft @ 3600 94 12v

It seems the 4 banger produces torque at a lower RPM. It would be interesting to see the dyno charts for both to see how they line up.

It may be a cam and compression difference between the 2.4l variants.

Can someone confirm the 3.0 output? I have seen everything from 141 to 151 for HP and very few torque figures.

And of course you can hang all the 2.0 turbo bits and make 300hp easy...

The 2.4 is an oversquare motor with a longer stroke than the bore is wide, like the 2.6, so it makes a lot of torque. The 3.0 is an undersquare motor, so it turns rpm easier, and makes more power higher up.

The 2.4 makes more power than the 2.6, and about the same torque, because it breathes a lot better and has a better cylinder head, especially in the 16v form.

The 3.0 makes more hp, but about the same torque, albeit at higher rpms. The fact that the torque peaks higher is probably the source of the higher hp, since hp = (torque x rpm)/5252, so if you make the same torque at higher rpms, you automatically make more hp.

The 2.4 is not a straight bolt in for a 3.0, but the wide block is a straight swap for the 2.6.

For 2.6 to 2.4 swaps, see projectzerog.com. It's common for the starquest guys.

Ok....for future reference. The 2.4 is a fuel injected 4cyl, and it will bolt to some type of Montero tranny:) I looked for the writeup on the link, but had a hard time finding it. Love to put a fuel injected 4cyl in a swb to keep one alive and smoggable.
