Body Damage is Cool
Sounds more like the rear axle is loose since it's all good in 4x4 and all over the place in 2x4. How does it feel when it pulls to the side, is it a definate pull from the front or like the whole car is turning? When you put it in 2x4 there should be no power going to the front wheels so there shouldn't be any power to pull it to the side.

Listen to MetalMover. Check for free-wheeling of each wheel. While you have it jacked up, try to move each individual wheel by grabbing it at 12:00 and 6:00 and push in and out to check for wheel bearing free play, then at 9:00 and 3:00 to see what's loose in the steering and suspension.

I've had the bolts that hold the upper suspension arm to the frame come loose on me, too. Causes all kinds of handling problems, as you might suspect. Check that.

When the front drive is engaged, the natural power wheel is the left side. That could explain away the negation of your drive issue versus 2wd. John suggestion for the 'clock' check is great. Doing this on my Raider several years ago revealed a broken UCA mounting bolt on one side and a bad lower ball joint on the other.

If you know of worn steering parts, than the time has come to change them for the safety of you, the truck, and the general public...if you continue to use the vehicle.

Getting the Wheeling Fever
I will check all that again. I plan to work on it over the next two weeks so I will report back.

I can say its not coming from the rear. I can take a sharp turning on ramp and let go of the wheel and it will go right around the curve. I can almost make a turn at a stop sign without touching the wheel. Its so bad it should be patently obvious but so far its not. Everything free wheels right and the bearings all seem great.

Will let you know what I find.

I had auto hubs lock up twice and cause the same issue, one was replaced under warranty in 1990 even.
