Here's what I've been working on.

[Linked Image]

First, I want to know from people that have built bumpers, did you need to reinforce the frame anywhere? Second, is there anything you guys would add like a place for a High Lift? Once I finish my design and I know it works, I'll send the drawings and dxf file to anyone that wants it for free. It's designed right now for a Warn 9.5XP right now.

Add a slot on either corner for a Hi-Lift to fit into and you've got a winner. Sure beats trying to get the jack to lift via a d-ring welded on there.

weld on 4 evenly spaced 1" x 1/2" tabs on the bottom of the bumper so your highlift won't slide out from under it while jacking. As for frame reinforcing, just change the mounting "horns" to something more usable. The loops on top for the stock bumper won't hold up to anything the rest is ok for general use.

Do you have the individual plates drawn out to be CNC'd out on a plasma machine?

The way I'm planning on doing this is that there is 3 separate parts. The top, middle and bottom. I'm going to perforate the bends on the middle piece so anyone could bend it up at home then weld up the perforations. I'm thinking it would be stronger that way plus not as much grinding.

Yes, when I finish they will be in the flat in dxf format so that anyone with a laser or CNC anything could download these and cut them out. Luckly we have a laser at work so I can cut mine out anytime. Also, does anyone have the dimensions of the High Lift jack so that I can make those slots?

Body Damage is Cool
I am a personal fan of trying to utilize the void space between the frame under the radiator. the frame is pretty strong and boxed but you can reenforce it if you like. As far as the high lift I am a fan of putting it on the rear bumper. But if you want to put it on the front build it into a brush guard or something. Keep up the good work.

I'll probably put some High Lift mounts on the rear bumper as well. I'm going to start on it as soon as I finish the front. I have maybe one more week left of design before I'm ready to cut it out as I only work on it during lunches and break. I'll keep you guys posted.

Slots or other provision for using the hi-lift to lift via the front bumper good idea. IMO not a god place to mount for carrying or stowage. You will already be adding quite a bit of weight up there with the bumper plus winch. Adding more will affect handling. I did not like the way my 95 handled after adding an ARB to the front. My 89 fared a lot better with own bumber that was slimmer and lighter and added synthetic cable to lighten the weight of the winch.

mine is a plasma cut kit for an XJ. we tweaked it a bit and welded mounting plates to the frame.

front bumper

justice is right about the weight. i'm probably downsizing my winch in the very near future.
