About a year ago a friend, Mike Warme, called and asked me if I knew anyone who may be interested in buying he 1983 Turbo Diesel Mitsubishi Pickup. I told him I was very interested. I had been at his place just a few months previously admiring his handy work the new paint job on this restoration. The truck was beautifully restored but it was lacking one major component, an engine. He offered to rebuild a 4D55 motor for the truck but I opted to go with a new 4D56 crate motor from Hyundai/Kia. The truck has been lovingly restored over the last 8 years to it's current condition.
Here are a few of the highlights:
New 4D56T Crate Motor rated at 100hp and 160ft lbs of torque
Rebuilt KM145 Transmission
Rebuilt KM100 Tcase
Rebuilt front end using Moog components
New dash pad from Just Dashes
New Radiator
New rear bumper from Fey
New carpet
New interior and rebuilt seat
New Leaf springs from Alcan
New torsion bars from Sway-a-way
New 4wd switches
New Paint
New bedliner
New graphics
New window scapers
New gaskets, rubbers and seals everywhere.
New lights and lenses
I am sure I missed a lot of items but you get the idea. This truck has been though a major restoration. It goes down the road smoothly and has plenty of power. It will comfortable do 80mph on the freeway all day long. I never have to down shift and it has plenty of passing power. It gets about 25-30mpg.
Mike Warme asked me to post a video of the restoration for all to see. Yesterday he called me for info about swapping the 4D56 engine into an '86 Montero for a customer. I know he also has plans to restore his 1985 Dodge Ram 50 4x4 Turbo Diesel and his 1983 Mitsubishi 2wd Turbo Diesel pickup.
