Getting the Wheeling Fever
Can buy a '94 Montero with 175,000 for 1800.00. looks super good, but owner is in process of replacing belt tensioner, cam position sensor and crank position sensor.
I need a vehichle for my grandson to ride to school and work, would this be a viable option for him? Any thoughts appreciated.

Body Damage is Cool
If the month runs correctly, I think it would be a good purchase. Was the timing belt changed as well?

Talk about doing half a job. If the owner is in there replacing timing-related parts, and I mean ANY of them, he should be replacing everything: cam and crank seals, water pump, timing belt, tensioner and idler. I wonder why the sensors are being replaced?

Other than that, yes, that would be a good vehicle for him to drive. Quite safe.

I would want two things done prior to purchase. Pass emissions and a cylinder leak down test, in addition to a clean test drive, of course.

Getting the Wheeling Fever
The reason for doing the work was an issue with dying, it would die, but start right back up, had it scanned at dealer and showed cam position and crank position sensors, one or both bad, after teardown found the belt tensioner bad. will talk to him and ask that he replace the belt also.
Thanks for your help.
Eddie
PS: will give the '88 Raider to another grandson.

Talked to the owner of the Montero, he will install new water pump belt, etc, for just cost of parts, so I will buy it for my grandson. Thanks for all the suggestions.
