Don't you guys ever talk to each other anymore? We used to have fun doing that. Talk about what is happening in your life...What you are adding to your Jeep, and lesser vehicles. It is called team building.....I wouldn't know anything about you, if we met.....Be cool...Mike

Well, the past week has been a whirlwind of travel and meetings. Today I did get out in the "field" to preview some restoration grant proposal sites where the claim is illegal OHV has damaged an area. I did argue strongly that the trash was construction trash illegally dumped and the tracks were from the trucks that drove into the area to illegally dump trash.

Other than that, my jeep sits while I struggle to find time to fix the broken door strap after wind caught the door and ripped the footmans loop off the sheet metal.

Cut and fitted a replacement section of sheet metal and need to breakout the welder and finish the project. That is on tap for Monday or Tuesday.

Tomorrow is a trip to the range to see how my new Ruger 10/22 Takedown fires. Got several different types of .22 LR to see if is picky about ammo.

Been laying out a series of articles to post covering reloading. It has been an interesting time researching the process of reloading.

Between tracking issues affecting four-wheeling and reloading research, time flies by....

I know you have been and are very busy, but it sounds like fun....I have put new tires and wheels, bull bar, terrorist hunting permit sticker,4 more lights on the Liberty, and locked the rear end. I'm putting in an adjustable fan thermostat and heat release vents on the Corvette hood. I am also putting in a Bendix brand battery disconnect switch in the Porsche 928, to keep the control units from draining the battery, every 2 weeks. I am sure I will find other ways to blow money also....Mike

John,
I used to have a 10/22 and it was picky about the ammo. It has been several years since I had it so I don't remember the details about what worked and what didn't.

I ended up trading the 10/22 and a Ruger standard automatic for a .300 Win Mag.

Finally found out the reason, why I worked at German car dealerships most of my life. I had a relay go out on my Hella driving lights, so I reached into my box of about a hundred Bosch relays, and was able to fix it, without spending any money.(which goes well with how cheap I am).....Be cool...Mike

Had a great time with my 10/22 Take Down at the range today.

I did note some issues in relation to the 10-round mags. I had three types of LR ammo. One (Imperial .22 LR) I expected problems. Interestingly, I had problems with it in one mag.

Close look revealed that the bullets were not seated with a crimp to hold them in place. As a result, when chambering, the bullet would tilt when hitting the ramp. As a result, it would not correctly feed and chamber.

While I had problems with it in 3 different magazines, one was consistent to the point it jammed the magazine. Again, loose bullet which tilted and jammed.

Otherwise, 50 rounds each of Winchester Super X and Blazer loaded, fired, and ejected with no problems.

At 25 yards, my groupings were within a 6 inch diameter. That is good considering trifocals glasses and open sights.

While cleaning up, I did note that my problem magazine had some lead shavings on the feed ramp edges. I did touch each magazine feed ramp with a little polishing to smooth the feed ramps.

Time for a scope which will be easier for my tired old eyes to focus through.

Overall, I am happy with the 10/22. Great little gun!!!

Older models of the 10/22 were more picky. However, any .22 semi is picky. I have and old Hiawatha that is supposed to take short, long and long rifle. I set it aside a long time ago as it was extremely finicky about ammo and I didn't have time to mess with it. I am going to pull it out and check its operation with newer ammo.

The Imperial ammo was from a stash I obtained when brothers and I put parents into assisted living. While cleaning out the garage, I ended up with about 400 rounds of .22 short, long, and long rifle. I have burned up a couple boxes of Hi-Power in my M&R .22 with no problems. I hadn't gotten around to trying the Imperial until today. I did not expect success.

Not a problem as I have plenty of ammo that will work.

About 20 years ago I had a Porsche 924. Really enjoyed driving that car. At the time I also had a 74 CJ-5. That was the time when Hella was coming out with halogen headlights marketed to the off road community for a premium price. I found that I could get Porsche lights that had the replaceable halogen bulb cheaper than buying the Hellas.

On the other hand, a friend had a '62 356B normal which had a cracked glass headlight cover. The VW replacement was identical and cost only 25% of the Porsche part.
