in the process of my 5.3 V8 swap, I am pretty much starting a frame up revamp. In the middle of removing the axle, I broke a shock mount. Has anyone ever broke one and had to fix it? I am thinking of just sawing one off at the junkyard and welding it on in the old ones space.
Also, found the only hole in the frame I am already read to weld up.

Those are easy repairs, I'd make new shock mounts so you can run bigger shocks. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

As for the hole you've got there, make your patch plate 1/4" smaller than the hole so that you end up with 1/8" gap on all sides. Use a larger plate to back your patch plate on the inside so you'll have something to weld to. On the sides weld from bottom to top. Easy frame repair.

Only thing I know about frame repair is not to do the entire weld all at once. Do an inch or two, let it cool, do an inch or two, let it cool, and so on. If you do large welds all at once it weakens the metal around the weld.

Least wise, that's what the Pirate guys always beat on everyone about. smile I've been religious about following that technique on my big Sport and I've never had a problem with the dozen or so repairs I've had to do on the body mounts and stuff.

Frame and axle sealed up. Welding the patch in after it dries up this coming week.

Engine hoist works nice when I don't feel like laying on my back getting ticks.
