My raider was running fine one day (went offroading), then went to use it a few day later and can't keep it running. Has rough idle, no power and is backfireing in the intake. Can smell unburnt fuel I can get it up to 4000 rpm by pumping the gas, sometime it will idle ok but hit the gas and it dies.
No check engine light
Things I have replaced/checked
Dropped the fuel tank and cleaned
New fuel filter
New fuel Pump checked the power to the pump that's good.
New fuel lines
Replaced the IAC when I got the truck 2 years ago. Could this be the problem?
New cap and rotor, plug and wires with 3k on them 2years ago
Cleaned the EGR
No CEL

Just cracked open the ECM to take a look no leaking capacitor.

I don't want to start throwing money at it but I'm stumped

thought of that because that how it runs like its out of time. Don't see how it ran fine one day then go to start it later and it happened.

What...?????? <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />..... <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/zombie.gif" alt="" />

Any car at any moment can bite the big one ... Any part can fail at anytime anywhere...

As a 40 plus year mechanic to pay the bills ..Statements like you made are madding to me .. LOL..

At start up is when cams jump... Not running down the road ...At start up is the hardest on cams ... And I could be way off and 100% wrong ..Car repair is not a science it can be a wild a$$ guess at times ..Its up to you ..Good luck

mitsubishilinks.com, 89 montero manual, vol 1, MPI section, "Testing engine coolant temp sensor" section.

Can't remember what the spec is at that range, and you need the manual .pdf anyway.

Acrid is a sign of leanout. Bad fuel press regulator, fuel pump, fuel filter, pickup sock in tank to pump. Possible blocked injectors. If ect sensor is bad, also will cause leanout at startup, and no start in cold conditions.

ALso possible vac leak, spray mani joints and hose connections with propane and see if idle rises.

Body Damage is Cool
Blocked exhaust? If it ran OK the last time you drove it and shut it off, then had problems at the next startup, maybe something crawled up the tailpipe and blocked it. Try vacuum test.
