I swear I use to know this, but cant seem to find the information. after a few years of the axle sitting in storage, I'm getting motivated to swap it into my 87 montero turbo standalone rig. My question is, will the 87 5 speed rear driveshaft flange bolt up to the sr axle, or will I need a sr axle driveshaft flange, and at that point is there a flange off any montero that will mate to the sr axle and still use the same 5 speed u joint as the 87?

Body Damage is Cool
My SR joint was bigger than the regular u-joint.I had the driveshaft shop just join the two on a 4-cyl driveshaft. I carry a couple of each, but even running 35's I've had no issue with the Mitsu joints.

No, there are 2 types of SR pinion flanges, the larger one comes under '94 and the rest are the same size as the 3.0 9" flanges. the later (smaller) flanges can be re drilled to work the others will take real customization or will need to be swapped.

I swapped a 1999 9.5" rear axle into my gen 1, i needed to redrill the holes and machine a recess into the flange so that the bolt head/washer would sit flat.

THanks for the replies. Looks like I probably wont get this baby in before the overland rally up in washington, but I doubt I will need it. Already have lsd, so im not hurting too bad.

Right now I need to pull the engine out. I developed a knock from some bad abusive driving I did to her awhile back. Probably gonna swap the crank out for a turned one I have sitting in my garage that was suppose to go into one of my gorged starion engines.

I'm also getting tossing in a megasquirt so I can run a fully function snorkel with the turbo. I'm pretty excited about that, especially afte hydrolocking my 04 ford ranger from a bit of water splashing into the front grill. who puts a air intake in the grill on a 4x4... only ford -_-
