Getting the Wheeling Fever
Yeah, every August for some reason, I start thinking about switching back to R12 :-)

It wouldn't be hard, but I'd like to have as leak-free of a system as I can before I do it.

Or I could just move to Colorado...

I took Lloyd Swartz's advice and looked on ebay for R12. There's a lot on there, but I thought it could only be sold to licensed consumers. If I can just buy some and have it delivered, I'll do that. Not sure I'm gonna need it this year though, it's been a cool Summer. Today, here in Franklin, IN, it's not gonna hit 75 degrees.

Buy it now. As supplies run dry, the price will only increase.

Body Damage is Cool
Home and commercial HVAC guys still carry R12 on their trucks. I used to have my 1990 service by the same guy who took care of my coolers at the restaurant. I have since converted to R134. I need a new fan now tho. Mine does not blow very hard any longer. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />

Ebay requires a licensed buyer, but they usually don't interfere. I can stock up on some next time I get the small cans

Learn something new everyday. Didn't know that house AC was R12.

I thought the old home and commercial systems used R22. The new stuff is 410, environment friendly. Don't know the chemical compounding but the names are different. Maybe you could use R22 in auto system but you'd need the characteristics to charge properly.

Apparently propane will work, if you want to drive a bomb.

Semi-relevant question. Does converting on these old trucks require additional fittings?

Reason I ask, I lost the suction line where it passes through the core support by the driver's side headlight. The bracket was missing, and the damn thing rubbed clean through. Haztoys picked up the same piece from an 84(?) at his secret stash, and though a little different, I could make it work, but the blown line on my 89 has a fitting apparently welded in. Definitely doesn't look factory.

Curious, you know, since we was on the subject.
