Getting the Wheeling Fever
I parked the 91 montero v6 for a week on a slight incline (my driveway). Now it turns (wants to start) but all I get is fuel leaking when key in on position from fuel tank. It has never done this before. Turn key off, fuel stops leaking. Obviously the pump is engaging while key in on position, but why is fuel leaking from my tank and not reaching my engine ?

It is normal for the fuel pump to run for about 1sec when you turn the key on to counter any sitting leak down. It also runs in key start, and in key on when the ecu sees spark signal.

If it leaks at key on, you have a leak in the pressure line at the tank. Remove the rear carpet and pull the cover in the steel floor over the fuel tank pump/gauge sender plate and inspect while cranking. Have a fire extinguisher handy...

When stuff like this happens, whatever part broke was on its way out. Leaving it parked for a week is just a coincidence.

Like I'd do rear brakes on a car and have the customer back yelling at me two days latter that hes got a power steering leak and I broke it... just coincidence.

88 Montero, StarQuest turbo, Kormex 5speed +tuff-pan w/phoenix f. stage2 clutch, 4in lift+33' tires, 4.875 lsd, short-throw shifter, Aisin hubs, SR big brakes, gen2 uca's, elantra alt, and so much more... 16g turbo w/hardpipes + 4.90 locking disk-brake axle soon (maybe lsd or aussie front??)

Getting the Wheeling Fever
Had time today to do the inspection on my 91 montero....took off inspection cover as directed and voila ! the high pressure line right next to the fitting has a puncture in it. Now I also saw that the high pressure line is connected to the tank via (sending unit ?) if that is what it is indeed called and the connector is attached to a curved tube attached to sender. The curve looks like in the past it had been torqued, bent a little bit because it looks like if I want to remove the pressure line from the sender I need two wrenches going in different direction, thus the prior torquing. Should I just replace both the pressure line AND the sender unit going into the tank ? If so where is best place to buy one and what is the exact name of this piece ?

so I answered some of my own questions but I am still unsure which way to turn the two nuts to loosen the pressure line without torquing the curved tube that leads into the sending unit. looking down into the hole at the line does the bigger nut turn towards me or away from me ? Ive hit it with pb blaster to loosen threads, just trying to avoid f'ing this up.

You have two connections to take loose, one at the sender end, and one at the hard line on the body end. Both are a real pain in the butt to get loose. The fitting material is soft, and the force required to break them loose is very high. The only way I've found is to use flare nut wrenches, two of them, on the line hut and one on the sender plate line/body hard line. Flare nut wrenches look like box ends with a one flat gap in the box. This grips 5 of the 6 flats on the connector and gives you a chance (not a good one) to break it loose. IIRC, one is a 19mm, and the other is a 15???.

I'd make sure I could find a new hose before I took off the old one. If you can't find one, I'd try to fix your old one. THis involves cutting off the crimps with a dremel cut off wheel (without nicking the hard nipples), peeling off the old rubber hose, and putting on new fuel injection hose with double hose clamps.
