I know this has been done in Isuzus, anyone ever explore it in a Monty? A 2004 Rodeo bellhousing would bolt to the engine and trans. Would have to custom fab a 4x4 oil pan, and since the supercharged versions are FWD, the throttle body needs a u-bend since it points at the firewall. Solid engine, good HP (probably close to 300), timing chain, alternator up high where it belongs. It's a 90 degree block so would be wider than the 3.5, but I have a 2" body lift to install so that might help if the engine needs to sit a bit higher.

Thoughts?

a 90* 4.3 has been done, so there's no real reason why a 3.8 won't fit. I'd go with a 4.3, myself, with a turbo a la Syclone/Typhoons. In my experience, the 4.3 is a stronger block. I had bad experience with a 3.8 in a buick turbo regal that my ex father in law owned.

Perhaps true, but the likelihood of me finding a SyTy engine is pretty low I think. I can find the 3800 SC. Plus the 3800 is distributorless, which the 4.3 wasn't until fairly recently (mid 2000s I believe).

Getting the Wheeling Fever
6G72 TT would appear to me to be less work...If I didn't break so many parts this season desert racing I would already be well into the swap.

I do love that GNP motor though!

Body Damage is Cool

Just read through all 6 pages of this build, and the great trips this rig has been on. Took nearly an hour to do it justice... <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif" alt="" />

Nice...I wonder if he'd build and mail me a set of those engine mounts. I figured those would need custom fab, and the oil pan. Buick engine would need a cobra head or u-bend on the intake since it's FWD, unlike the Holden setup.

From all reports the HOlden 3.8 is a buick motor or very similar:

Changes in the relative values of the Australian dollar and Japanese yen made it financially impractical to continue with the well-regarded Nissan engine of the VL. Instead, Holden manufactured their own 3.8-litre V6 engine based on a Buick design, adapted from front- to rear-wheel drive.[56]
