Getting the Wheeling Fever
Hello, some of you may follow my thread on EXPO but i thought i would share pictures too. Basically what happen - i thought i blew my engine was planning to swap it, but everytime i unscrew something big i was finding new surprises. Right now i know my torque converter bolt came out, scratched torque converer and cracked tranny bell housing. I think it got stock between starter and flywheel preventing me to start the engine. There was oil puddle on the ground some we thought bearing shot through the oil pan, but oil relief valve got stuck and oil pressure was through the roof so it was leaking from cranshaft seal with oil pan intact. I'm taking everything apart to check for damages, changing gaskets and hoping that when i reassemble i don't find another issue. Not sure if i should crankshaft for signs of wear by taking of all the pistons.

those bolts missing because i used them to remove oil pan - perfect fit

those caps are perfect covers for spark plug tubes, just enough tension to stay and let air in so it's easy to spin crankshaft

cleaned out oil pump and have some questions
[Linked Image]

it was so dirty that last piece didnt want to come out

[Linked Image]

I end up using 1/2 bolt with paper towel to screw in that piece to get it out

[Linked Image]

After all was cleaned, i filled it up with oil and spun couple of times and it was leaking from the shaft connector, is it normal?

[Linked Image]

After that i decided to clean out alternator - it was like a nest in there

Wow, and I thought my last mud adventure was impressive. The alternator tells the story <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/scared.gif" alt="" />

Those Torque converter bolts on these old rigs do have a tendency to wiggle out unfortunately.

IIRC torque converter bolts are single use as they stretch when tightened. Probably a good idea to replace them. Mine were about $6 each from the dealer.

Boy was there some gunk in your oil pan. I've never seen one that dirty on the inside. How many miles on the motor? Do you think that's grit from dust going through your air intake?

Hi guys, sorry didn't check earlier. I was going to do a full rebuild and got it all apart, took to two machine shops and they both said that crank and head are worn out beyond repair. Crank and pistons are all loose, on head cams ate through aluminum and loose as well. Dirt in the oil pan i think is sand mixed with oil, maybe it got there from dipstick tube. But oil was horrible when i checked it after got out the mud, apparently on the spot oil change didn't help.

This morning i got 3.5L engine from 99 momntero but entire oil pan is different. I've searched all around Ohio and nothing exact same as mine, extremely weird and kinda scary.

My plan is to swap oil pans, pick up tube and maybe oil pump if i can't use the one on the engine, get it in the truck and see if it runs. If all goes well i'll leave it until summer for in depth rebuild like head gasket and things. Timing belt is a maybe at this point, if it's good than i'll leave it, if not i'll have to do it. The reason i don't want to do complete timing belt is because if i have leaky seals i dont want to damage new belt.

If you'd like guys i can post more pictures
