Getting the Wheeling Fever
I am having a problem that has gotten worse over time. It takes a long time to get to top gear on the highway. Now it wont go in to OD until the vehicle has been on the road for 45 minutes or so. When it finally does shift to top gear, the OD light switch on the dash works. I can turn OD on and off - the tranny shifts up, then back down like it should. Any ideas of what might cause this?

Yes, that sounds familiar. Two possibility here. It might be something as simple as Tranny Fluid service time. However, the symptoms you are describing make it seem more like the OD relay has partially failed. You may just need to disconnect it, clean the spade connectors and reconnect it. You may need to replace it entirely. Here is a picture of where to find it.

Check the temperature switch on the engine. It keeps the OD off until the engine is up to temperature. Sounds like yours is failing.

It was no trouble. That photo was taken a decade ago when I retrofitted a cruise control system from a 1991 Montero.
