In the process of swapping the rear end in the Monty, I ended up cutting out the shocks. Just couldn't get the top nuts off and was getting inpatient.
I was just running stock shocks with the OME lift. this time around want to get a longer shock but but none of the manufactures make a shock for lifted Montero.
I'm to worried about brand. Need to know how to go go about determining how long of shock is need then how to find shock. Most website display shocks based on vehicle type.
Thanks, ~ Jon

I think Id ask the old man, however if you did a 4" lift would you want a 4" longer shock, just my assumption. MM

Try Contacting KYB's tech support team.
When we were looking for longer rear shocks, I contacted KYB (the OEM shock manufacturer for many Montero model years including the 3-position gen II SR shocks). Their tech department was more than patient and willing to help.
I told them we lifted the rear suspension 2" with longer coils and they came up with an alternatively shock that fit my criteria w/ the easiest mount to modify (by removing a metal sleeve that was press fit into a rubber bushing).

Thanks, ~ Jon The kyb MonoMax stock length front shocks from the Cherokee XJ is the perfect length for running the OME setup on the rear of a Montero, kyb part number 565053. Perfect fit and will ride much better than your stockers.

When I asked this question a while back, someone sent me a link to a kyb tech sheet that lists every shock they sell by application paired with dimensions. I had a couple ideas but am yet to need the shocks. I don't have the link anymore.
88 Montero, StarQuest turbo, Kormex 5speed +tuff-pan w/phoenix f. stage2 clutch, 4in lift+33' tires, 4.875 lsd, short-throw shifter, Aisin hubs, SR big brakes, gen2 uca's, elantra alt, and so much more... 16g turbo w/hardpipes + 4.90 locking disk-brake axle soon (maybe lsd or aussie front??)
