All right, because that extension of Elephant Butte road isn't very long,
I think Stacey and I will camp out at the end of it (if we can) and then you can just meet us up there - then we can backtrack the short way down to Hardt Tank Road and take that up those wicked deep canyons to Mesquite Spring and depending how much time is left in our day take the fast way or the long way back to the highway from there.
Since I've never been up the Elephant's Butte, I don't know for sure if we can camp there so IF you can't meet us at the end of it
HERE then we can meet in Queen Valley at I'm guessing the only business in the whole town, "Dining Room Cafe" - it's on the way so you would either see my Jeep or not.
What time would you want to meet up?Because I have never been out there, I don't have any idea how rough or not rough the roads are. I don't even know for sure that they go through and there seems very little on the internet about them from a 4x4 perspective.
This is part of Elephant Butte road:
I found almost no credible images of the Hardt Tank road up through Campsite Springs and so forth...
This might be a credible image of the lower part of it Based on satellite images and all that, I'm going to suggest that this is probably an OK run for stock 4x4 Monteros or any conventional 4x4 with decent ground clearance and all terrain tires. Rocks are sharp out here so if you're running half bald highway tires you probably should be prepared with spares, jacks and all that stuff.
