Need a Spot
Just finished changing out the balance and timing chains, all guides and the oil pump and am ready to put the front cover back on.
How do I prime the oil pump? The pump is mounted and the timing cover is still off. The fsm mentions priming with 10ml of oil, but is not clear where to add this oil. There is a small cavity at the top of the pump housing that appears to have a small hole at the bottom. Do I add the 10ml of oil there?
I've done a search, and most of the results are related to priming after the timing cover is back on the vehicle.
Thanks, Jeff

Body Damage is Cool
In all of my overhauls with Gen I Monteros, I've never primed the oil pump in the fashion that the manual describes. I've only ever primed the oil pump with the spark plugs removed and the distributor plug grounded.

Oh and turning over the starter for 15-20 seconds so the whole engine is primed. Then I reinstall the spark plugs and break in the piston rings.

the only other thing I have ever done is to put the engine assembly lube in the oil pumps to help prime and prevent them from being started up without lube. I heard of vasoline being used, but I don't ever have that in my house.

Type in something like "starquest prime oil" into Google and there's a bazzilion write ups on various ways to prime the g54b.
