Getting the Wheeling Fever
Someone with a SWB do me a favor and snap a pic of the fuel filler hose protector in position in the wheel well? It's a bit drafty and I'm feeling exposed...

I would, but mine is still covered with mud in time out on the trailer.

Note new filler hose. Let me know if you have trouble locating the part.

I'll try again. For some reason, the picture won't post. I can text you a picture if you still need it. We have that part in junk yards here in Georgia.

Getting the Wheeling Fever
Hey Russel -

Since the truck was rear-ended before it landed in the junkyard, there were a few things that needed to be done - in addition to the bumper you helped me with, the fuel filler hose needed to be replaced right away. The accident ripped it in half. The fuel level sender is bad, too - pulled it out and it looks like a repair isn't possible. I suspect the filler hose protector was damaged and just discarded.

Hope you're well -

John

PM sent, Keith - I'd be interested in locating one, indeed. I've been calling around regionally (I'm in SoCal) without luck. It isn't a part that shows up in car-part, and the pick yards don't seem to want to tell me if they've got a SWB before I drive there and give them a couple of bucks just to walk around and look.

Thanks -

John

Here are 3 places I know have that part.
(1)Lost Mountain Auto Parts - 770-445-4441 - Dallas, Ga.
(2)Cagle Auto Parts - 770-382-0199 - Cartersville, Ga.(Raider)
(3)Yarbrough Auto Parts - 706-235-7578 - Cedartown, Ga.
Either text or fax the picture you posted on here, and I'm sure one of them will ship the part to you. Call in the order I listed them. Let me know if you have any trouble out of them.

Try part number MB329418 $25.88. It's for a 1987 Montero 4 cylinder. I don't know why your 1989 Montero V6 is different. All these in the junk yards here are for 4 cylinders. Crest Truck Parts has a 4 door V6. It may be what you need. Their # is 800-424-2065

Getting the Wheeling Fever
Found one in a Gen 1 SWB at a yard in Wilmington, CA - it isn't the same in the V6, though. Touched it up with a hammer to make it fit. I'm missing the top L-bracket (it's supposed to be spot-welded there) in the top of the wheel well to attach the 3rd bolt, but the protector fits pretty snugly right now with the lower two bolts in place. Nice to not have to sweat it anymore.

Thanks for the tips, folks.

John
