took the little cover off belt on drivers head near dizzy. When running the belt moves back and forth on the gear about 3/16 inch,,,,like the gear is bent. The gear is cast iron so I don't think that's it. A friend suggested the belt was manufactured/cut off crooked. Anyway, I don't expect a long life on this belt... Anybody ever seen such?

Does it move once per revolution of the cam gear or once every several revolutions? Once per rev means a bent or slightly out of spec gear, Once every several revs means the belt is a bit whack.

thanks for the seponces... Idling engine I'm Dealing with optical illusions,,I'm gonna have to get my crank wrench out and turn by hand. The gear seemed to be polished equally around the entirelength of the surface so maybe it is the belt. This newer engine is leakig oil so bad I ought to just take all T covers off and check the new H20 pump and T idler, etc. and try to fixoil leaks(I own the wrong engine for being someone that can't tolerate oil leaks. Friend sugested High Crankcase pressure causing the leak,I think it is just the way of the 3.0. Also looking at my radiator ,,,again my re soldier eeam is leaking. Dang this old man getting tired.
