What's up guys, I just acquired an 88 raider from in-laws that my wife used to drive. It hasn't been registered since 09 but my father in-law still drove it to work a couple times a year. It is a 2.6 auto and is currently running but I think it could run better. Body and frame are in excellent shape, no serious rust. Interior is blue and while it may not be the prettiest color it is complete and with a little vacuuming it can look good. I do Need to glue part of the headliner back up. All controls and functions seem to work properly. It has a nasty belt squeak when you first start it, they told me its not the correct belt and the correct replacement could never be found. Plan now is to clean it up best I can and either decide then whether to keep or sell. I'd like to do the Weber conversion on it and get some 31 or 33 in tires for it.

Had a productive day. Changed the oil, removed all skid plates so i could clean the underneath with degresser. I noticed i was having a difficult time pushing it in neutral, I jacked up the front and low and behold both front wheels were dragging the brakes bad. instead of ordering new calibers I took the pistons out and scoth brighted the piston and inside of the caliber. put them back on, bled the brakes and wheels spin freely now. yesterday i had the engine running decent down the road, but today i took it down the sheet and it started spiting and sputering so i got some work to do there.

Got it running a little better, adjusted timing, new water pump, new temp sending unit, new water pump/alt belt( no more squeaks), new spark plug wires.
Investigated the exhaust leak I got, took off the manifold shield and bam there it is a crack all the way around the manifold on cyl 4. Take it off and that same crack has a 1/2 in hole in the bottom part of the manifold. Time to find a new one

I still got 3 of these things. Two 87's and the 2001. I drive the raider around the yard every other week or so. That 01 was my dd last summer til I swamped it in a mud hole. It runs fine just likes to self downshift without warning and then stick in first gear till you let it rest an hour or two. I burned up all my AAA free tows so I had to park it.

I found a used manifold for $45, gonna pick it up later this week, then I just gotta wait for rockauto to deliver the gasket

The 2.6 is known for cracked exhaust manifolds. To give the manifold a better chance of surviving without cracking, it would be wise to cut the webbing between the cylinders then have the gasket surface planed at a machine shop. That'll give the runners the chance to expand and contract individually which will put less stress on the rest of the manifold.

Interesting. I looked at the manifold some and noticed more cracks on either side of the O2 sensor. I did pick up the new manifold today, its in good shape, just one broken stud on the down pipe I gotta get out. If this one cracks I'll have to look into a header like the other poster suggested. I can't to hear what this sounds like with no leak, I believe it's been leaking since before my Father in law bought it
