Need a Spot
I apologize if this has been asked before, but I am wondering the differences between the montero sport vs montero xls.

My goal is to be able to have a good daily driver and also a weekend warrior that I can explorer/mud/snow/rock
through.

Is one better suited for off-road vs one as a daily driver stock.

And is there any major differences in the years?

Can bigger tires be put in either of them stock?

I have an explorer now but am looking at montero and needed to know the differences to help me make up my mind on what model to chose.

Ideally I'm looking tiger the newest year I can afford although I do love the 95-96sr but they are older rigs.

Thank you all for any opinions/advice it's much app reacted in helping this newb

Body Damage is Cool
Your questions are fairly broad and will take a fairly long explanation to answer thoroughly, but would not be that difficult to answer yourself if you do some reading on this site. The Montero was built on it's own frame where the Montero Sport was designed as a slightly lower-market vehicle and shares it's frame with the pickup. They do share a number of components, but in general the full size Montero is considered to be a bit stronger and stouter. Either can be modified to whatever extent your wallet will permit, but neither has large aftermarket support for off-road parts and accessories. Thankfully the Monteros are far more capable and durable in stock form than most modified Jeeps with $5K worth of suspension and drivetrain modifications.

95 Montero SR
3.8 MIVEC, Advance headers, 2 1/2" exhaust, Magnaflow muffler, OME shocks & rear springs, 2" body lift, 3" tank lift, 4.90s, TRE front locker, factory rear locker, Roger Brown Rock Sliderz, 315/75r16 (35") tires, Sport big brakes
