fan not blowing until engine has a load #1079444 11/08/15 12:01 AM

Having an issue with my '98 Trooper. The heater/ac fan won't blow out any of the vents until I put a load on the engine. The fan itself is fine because it does blow once I get some revs and a load going but at idle there's nothing coming out the vents no matter the setting, i.e. recirc, defrost, top or bottom. Seems like a vacuum issue but I can't locate a vac line going through the firewall. Thanks in advance for a great forum.

I would go back and check the fan. 12 volts should get the fan running. And engine under load will generate more than 12 volts....

The fan is running, the air is being diverted by whatever mechanism controls where it blows from, i.e. defrost vents, upper vents, lower, etc. its like it just isn't coming out where I want it to.

Thanks for the clarification. It does sound more like a vacuum leak. Typical vacuum systems have a flapper that diverts air flow. About all I can say is start tracing vacuum lines...

Thanks, verifies what I was thinking. I was just hoping for a little direction on where it vac line is/comes from/goes to. I'll just have to get in there with a good light and look until I find it. Has to be there and there really aren't very many vac lines on this truck. Not like my '81 Toyota...ugh! That was a nightmare.
