Getting the Wheeling Fever
I am currently rebuilding my Raider, specifically working on the electrical components.
The ancient light bulbs in the instrument cluster and dash stuff barely giving off any light. I want to replace them all with LED's. I know the normal bulb is a type 74 instrument panel bulb and I found a site through google that suggests an LED alternative for my year and Raider.
Has anyone else upgraded to LED lighting? If so what did you use?
I'm pretty sure I need resistors as well since LED's run on very little electrical pressure (Volts). Correct?
Parts and instructions appreciated as well.

Do you have an online source for the LED's themselves? If so please share.

I'm on the fence about doing this, are the LED's much more $ than what standard bulbs run nowadays?

99% of the interior bulbs in my Gen 1 are still working fine. I replaced a dead one in the lower right on the tach (reg bulb, not an LED) and it's definitely brighter compared to the old original bulbs, which refuse to quit working.

That's the link I have for the LED source I want to use.
They are correct about what the stock bulb model numbers are so that encouraging that the LED's they suggest are the ones to use.
They also have the whole range of LEDs including the very attractive LED cluster Headlights! although they are kinda pricey. The trade off with using the LEDs though would be the consistent bright light and the very low Electrical draw compared to the OEM bulbs that are impressively unwilling to give up.
Wiring it in would'nt be hard with fresh wire running on it's own circuit using brand new connectors from a modern DIY kit. Just need to figure out if resistors are needed to balance the current and "step it down" before the LED. This way they don't constantly discharge the battery.

A few brains or just the right one can solve this and make the solution simple.

Well, they seem to offer load resistors, etc. for the different current draw, but it could be a waste if the LED is too big to fit in the housing. I would definitely do it if I had the time, patience, etc, it would look cool and the output would be great. Kinda expensive in the long run though.

TBH, though, my headlight output is just fine, and while all the other bulbs are a little dim by today's standards, they're perfectly adequate.

Body Damage is Cool
The one's I've seen that have converted are considerably brighter on the dash. And interior bulbs, no comparison. The LED'S are excellent. The only thing I have not seen it help are the anemic reverse lamps.

they are not DOT compliant if that matters to you.

These seem like awesome headlamps at a decent price to me. It says they have built-in heatsinks, I'm fairly sure they have built-in resistors, And the pic of the motorcycle implies they fit a standard 7" round housing. For comparison I looked up these:
http://www.autozone.com/1/products/105917-headlight-silverstar-h6024st.html
They put out 1118.73 lumens @ 4.3amp
The above LEDs put out 1600 lumens @ 3amps

To get that lumen/amp you'd have to run auxiliary lighing and a higher amp-hour battery. Could you do that for $240? Maybe, but then you'd have extra lights to mount and you'd still be burning gasoline to power the extra amp draw.

If you like to run the lights at low RPM, idle or with the engine off, the LEDs are the clear choice.

My OEM dome light if pitiful. I'm replacing that asap. Also, my raider doesn't seem to do much charging under 1000RPM. Something to consider. I have the 75amp alternator and a deep-cycle grp31 battery. I can run my stereo/sub for hours and still start the car no problem. But my snowplow controller gets unresponsive after about 4-6 hours. My cabin blower fan seems to suck amps. I wonder if it's dying.
Anybody else notice that about the fan?

Another forum dude posted these, and I got a pair too for my 2 dome lights. They were money well spent.

I'm more interested in replacing the interior lighting with LED's and maybe some of the exterior lights, nothing that major really.

Also something that occurred to me is that I have a keyed electrical switch that's right after the battery in terms of a circuit. NO power flows through the truck unless that switch is engaged. Wouldn't this be enough to eliminate the need for resistors? Since resistors are primarily needed to keeps the LED's from discharging with the vehicle not running.
Pretty sure this'd solve the resistor conundrum.
