Need a Spot
I'm currently running 31X10.50 Cooper tires on Isuzu factory aluminum wheels but would like to go to a 16" wheel and run a narrower, taller tire on my '88 Trooper II. Is the Isuzu 6 lug pattern the same as GM? Thanks.

Yup, but you have to be careful about wheel selection, 'cause the Isuzu rims have a 108mm (4.25") center hub.

A lot of Chevy rims (and many others) have the correct 6x5.5 bolt pattern, but a smaller hub and they won't fit your Trooper. Early Nissans also had a 4.25" hub size, so if you find a wheel that has the correct 5.5" bolt pattern, it should work fine.

Toyota's same thing, but watch out 'cause most of them are hub-centric and although will fit, they won't center on the Isuzu hub which potentially could lead to vibration. They take a straight-shank lug, and a set of them ain't cheap! I put a set of 4Runner wheels on my old '89 RS and they were fine. But I did pre-align them by using 3 beveled Isuzu lugs, equally spaced, to help center, then installed 3 of the straight lugs. Removed the beveled ones and installed the rest. It rode nice 'n smooth with no vibration.

That being said, I asked a local Trooper Dude running similar Toyota 4x4 rims and he said that he didn't do anything special to them, just bolted them up and it was fine. So FWIW on that I guess.

Here's a good wheel cross-reference site, note that it pulls up info for '92-up Troopers, but the earlier Gen I's have the same bolt pattern and hub size requirements.

Any newer 16" Isuzu 6-lug wheel should fit OK as well. There are quite a few different styles & offsets on Troopers and Rodeos, so if you search Craigslist or your local yank-a-part/etc you should be able to find something that'll suit your needs.

Hope that helps........ed

p.s. Planetisuzoo.com is very active and has a good "Wheels & Tires" forum that you may find useful:

Join up while you're at it and post some pics of your rig.
