Need a Spot
Hi Guys-

Just cruised your way from my normal stomping grounds in the Mitsu section. I drive a 91 Montero, but it's time for the rest of the fam to get power to all wheels. We've been looking at Discoverys and the like (price ability tops out about 6K for us). I'd love any help/advice you can give on years/models that will provide good miles in return for investment. We're not hard drivers, but like to get into the snow. Also, what sort of mileage should I realistically expect from the V8s?

Thanks tons!

$6k will limit you to a 94-96 Discovery, or older Range Rover.

Expect low teens mpg - 12-14 in town, slightly higher on the highway.

Keep in mind Rovers leak. Many leaks are seepage and are not critical, but the only way you can determine is to thoroughly check it out, or have a trusted mechanic inspect it. For example, my rear main seal has leaked since I bought my Disco a yr ago, but it only requires a slight top-off between oil changes.

We could go on a for a while about what else you should be looking for when considering Rovers..........

My ownership experience has turned quite sour. I love the Disco, but have become tired of repairing and maintaining - I try to do all of my own work. This thing is about as bad as the 94 Montero we had. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/angry.gif" alt="" />
