I figured Id start a thread for opening season for us Nor-Cal guys, This one will be played by when the highways open up for the season. Normally they ôdoö open up first weekend of May in any case. Our plan is to go on 15th~ 17th and campout at Utica/Union Lake. Side note, we try stay away from Memorial weekend, being all the crazy people out everywhere.

The trails we want to run are, Slick Rock and Deer Valley. I am sure most of you probably been on these trails before and or have heard of them, for the typical wheeler, they are moderate (in my opinion). Both of these trails are off the upper High Way 4 pass Bear Valley ski resport/ Apline Lake.

Some information on these trails, Slick Rock has only one hard part which is bypass able. Deer Valley is little more extreme, the one time we went, we started from High Way 4 entrance and headed north-east to Highway 88. Climbing the first part is tuff, and I donÆt recall any bypassÆs on the trail.

I donÆt want go into any detail what type vehicle/lift/junk is recommend, but a stock Jeep with Dana35 on 33Æs made it no problem on both trails.

So thatÆs the trails we plan run. We do plan to set camp up at Utica Lake, which is off the Spicer Reservoir main road. Great part about this camp site is only few minutes from Slick Rock trail head. And from there , Deer Valley is only minutes up High Way 4.

If anyone wants more information about these trails/campsites just Google it up, there is bunch of trail websites.

So far it will be just me (Sean) and antig (Jason) going. We have a nice pop up trailer which is great for us :P , Utica lake has bunch of places camp out at, so thatÆs that!

Watch out for them 'pudry lips'. Especially if the trailer is-a-rockin'.

i like the deer valley run and have only done the n/s way.

i have a window may1-5 i have to use up(probably e fork carson via barney riley) and am watching the weather and snow reports to see how to get in.
