Getting the Wheeling Fever
Ever heard antilock brake system make a 4-pulse noise like "urk urk urk urk" that you can feel a little in pedal? I'd like to attach a short & small 4MB video I made but don't know where to put it, lol. It only does it at first press of pedal, about 1/2 second after it's depressed...and every time.

I don't have a brake light on now but sometimes the antilock dummy light will come on and off, or stay for a while.

I don't care if the antilocks don't work because I like all manual old school operation anyway. I know how to drive, lol. But I do want the brakes to always work of course!

It brakes good, straight, quiet and evenly. Fluid is full and doesn't leak out. Seems clean.

Any guesses? Maybe ABS Booster that runs on vacuum...thus the short delay?

There is a small wire on top of the intake plenum that isn't plugged in, but there isn't a male plug anywhere for it to mate with. Took pic of it, but again where do I post pic or video for this site, over 1MB?

You can email the video or pic larger than 1 meg to me and I will post it to a place outside the database where it can be seen.

You didn't state the year. Some observations with issues similar on other vehicles.

Mid-2000 saw a change in the ABS systems where the on-board computer registers data concerning fluid level. If you add fluid, the on-board computer will not acknowledge the increased level.

Your symptoms do indicate the need to have a brake inspection. While you may not care if ABS is working, the on-board computer does care....

I discovered the noise is the nitrogen filled Brake Accumulator. According to Mitsubishi HQ it's a non-essential part that imposes no safety problems and only symptom is the chirping "urk urk urk urk" noise and MAYBE a firmer than usual pedal sometimes (but I've not noticed that yet).

It IS NOT a "recall" but only a warranty extension for 10 years or 100,000 miles, which ever is first.

So I'm glad. Anything that doesn't require a fix is welcomed!
