This modification is very easy. In fact, it was easier to do and took less time than it will take me to put this post together.
First off, you need to understand that your seat is actually 3 parts: the seat, the adjuster, the base. Regardless of whether you have a bouncy seat, or it doesn't bounce, or a difference in the passenger side that the seat tilts forward so people can get in the back, or one that just holds the seat and adjuster like in a LWB. This first picture shows the Gen 2 seat base, and the adjuster.

Here is the Gen 2 seat as seen from outside the vehicle. It will generally look like this from either side. You have to take the two handles off, then that big cover held on with two screws.

With the cover off, you will have access to the bolts hold the seat base to the seat adjuster. I highly recommend taking them out, and using them to be new bolts holding the seat base down in your gen 1. Same fine thread, except they are really clean, and I found I was able to thread them in by hand, as opposed to the ones that were originally in there.

You disassemble your Gen 1 seat the same way, separating the seat base from the seat adjuster. Then take the adjuster off your crusty old Gen 1 seat. Once off, toss that crappy, uncomfortable old seat. Take your Gen 1 adjuster, and bolt it in the front bolt hole on your Gen 2 seat. Like so;

After getting it bolted down, mover the adjuster so you have access to the rear hole. The hole will be covered, except for a tiny portion of it will be visible.



This is where you bust out your drill and a 5/16" (8mm) bit. Drill thru the seat frame, to where you can use the original seat frame bolt, along with a lock washer and 8mm nut, to attach the two together. It really is that simple.


Now you have your Gen 2 seat mated to the Gen 1 seat adjuster. Now simply bolt your seat base(bouncy, tilt, stationary, whichever you have)to your new hybrid seat.

Now you should have something resembling your old seat, only more comfortable. Bolt the seat base back in, and go hit the trails!!!

I have been told its a bolt in. It won't bolt in the SWB, mounting points are definitely different. Going to be working on it though, they have cup holders. The kids are excited.
