Hi All,

Looking for some direction to help diagnose an issue with a manual transmission 1995 Kia Sportage SOHC...

Symptoms:
When my fuel gets to 1/4 tank, the engine intermittently jerks during acceleration...bumps can also cause the jerk...check engine light has come on a couple of times...car sometimes seems close to dying...did die once. When I restart things are ok for a bit - usually long enough to get a full tank again. I've experienced a slight jerk with a full tank once or twice, but usually the car purrs along fine until the tank is to 1/4 or so.

Engine Codes:
From the flashing check engine light #8 (MAF) and #73 (Vehicle Speed Sensor)

Things I've recently done:
Replaced spark plugs, fuel filter and fuel pump. Air filter is in great shape. I really thought I had it solved with the new fuel pump - worked great until 1/4 tank. I haven't replaced the MAF or Vehicle Speed Sensor. I realize the MAF could cause this symptom, but why would it do this only at 1/4 tank? Also could the Vehicle Speed Sensor be affecting this? Again it's hard for me to understand why the low fuel might be related. Why do I even need a vehicle speed sensor on a manual transmission?

Apparently I can't get more specific OBD codes due to the 20 pin connector? So my next thought is...clean the MAF...then maybe replace the V Spd Sensor. Still baffled about how the fuel level is related. Anyone?
