Just posted another question but I also had a less dire but still important question about my Gen 1 - So the two little hoses that run together from the little cooler in front of the main condenser on the passenger side to the block are leaking at the connectors just below the rubber shrouding. From looking at the partsouq diagrams, I believe these are the oil cooler hoses? Can anyone confirm? Also what kind of connectors are these? I've found some "oil return hoses" that match this vehicle online but the ends of them don't look quite right - I'm not real familiar with how these copper lines all fit together though - in any case I need to get these fixed and I'm guessing simply buying the hoses won't fix it since it seems to be leaking at the connections.
The big issue though - which seems like poor design - is that these are RIGHT ABOVE the main ground wire that's bolted the block. My Ground wire has a bunch stripped off the end and it's just a big circle of wire that's held in by the nut against the block. The little bracket that it's attached to has another hole just above where the ground wire is connected with nothing connected to it - not sure if this was to provide an option for grounding or if something else is supposed to ground out there. When I first started changing out coolant hoses, I noticed a little piece of wire that looks a lot like a strip off of a grounding strap but it was not connected to anything on either side - just kind of hanging out down there and I still haven't found any broken wire that matches it that it could have belonged to.
Anyway - can I move that main ground to some other spot on the block (if i test the spot with a multi meter and it is a good candidate?) - has anyone else moved theirs for this reason? If so, where did you stick it?
Also - need to know if those hoses are for sure oil cooler hoses - the diagrams don't say which is which - but they allude that they are transmission cooling hoses, but they go from the block to that little cooler that sure looks like an oil cooler in front of the radiator, so not sure how transmission oil would come through that way to the cooler by way of the engine block? Thanks for any info you may have.

the transmission lines are smaller and would run under the vehicle from the tranny to the bottom of the radiator. The oil cooler lines are supposed to have crush washers between the metal fittings at the end of the hoses and the block. If it isn't leaking from the rubber part of the line and at the block, could just need to be removed and new washers installed. I would clean the block as well as I could too .Cheers!

So I re-read your problem and it seems they are leaking where the metal fitting and the rubber are pressed together? If that is the case, what I would try is taking it off and go to a hydraulic hose assembly place and see if they have anything close in the metal fittings that would work and have new ones made. Or I found a guy in Vegas that can source a lot of gen 1 stuff, reproduction and NOS stuff, he has a site: monterogen1man.com If he can't get it, it doesn't exist, his site would give you a lot of cool upgrade ideas as well.

Do like as stated above and take the hoses to a hydraulic shop and have them put new hose in, and they will have the proper ferrule to clamp the hose and give you a factory appearance. On your ground strap issue, it's not a poor design it's a poor mechanic. Wlres under a bolt? Not by Mitsubishi. A ring terminal with the wire crimped into it, yes. Put a crimp terminal on it, then clean the area, fix your hoses, it will be good to go. If you are talking about on of the braided ground straps on the top of the engine has a broken end, you can replace it with some 10ga wire. In fact, on a 30+ year old vehicle it wouldn't hurt to add a couple. Cycle your electrical connections a few times to help them get good conductivity, and that can only help with possibly getting rid of weird intermittent electrical issues. It did on mine..

thanks for the input - glad to know that block ground isn't supposed to be like that from factory. I'll get an actual terminal hooked up there. The only weird issue I've had so far is the automatic locks - where I hit the lock button and all the locks go down then right back up - but I figure that's one of the actuators getting stuck somewhere so it's probably it's own thread.
Regarding the hoses, I did find a pair of OEM send/return oil cooler lines and I should have them at my door by the end of the week. They come with the original OEM banjos with washers and bolts so I figure that should resolve the whole thing. I did also go ahead and get a new oil pressure sensor since it's right there and I'm wondering if I should also go ahead and get the oil filter housing as well? Is there anything that can get fouled up inside there? should I take it off and clean it out or is there really no need?
Thanks again - maybe this week I'll get some photos of the LS and get em posted on here. I'm painting the hood currently and waiting for some 2k clear to come in to finish it up.
