Guys,

How high (and safe) a lift can I get by cranking my torsion bars without upsetting the current(stock, non-power) steering configuration on my 86 Trooper?

I measured from the midpoint of hub of the wheel to the lip of the fender and both sides are at 18 in.

I'd like to know the max height so I can set it at that level and base the rear lift I intend to do on that height and even things out.

I will be changing rear springs and shackles soon anyway so I might as well get a little lift when I do so.

Thanks

Boyd

Boyd,
You can get in the vecinity of 3-3.5 in of lift from the torsions bars.
But to do this you will need to do the ball joint flip plus a ball joint spacer from DOR. and also some low profile bumpstops.
This will allow for that much lift and still keep the ride nice.
Others may argue with this, but I have done it.

I would figure in the range of what Black-n-Blue said, but I would lift the rear first then adjust front to match. Since the front is raised by turning an adjusting bolt it is easier to fine tune. The rear you are gonna get whatever your shackles and springs give you, there's no adjustment.

Thanks for the info guys. I guess I will have to do the rear susp. first. I found a pair of used Japanese shackles that are about an inch longer and I'll probably get an additional inch with the upgrade (stiffer) springs. So I'll adjust the front and do the ball joint spacer thing when I get the rear end together.

I've taken the "restore-and-do-little-modification" route on this project so lift isn't going to be much of an issue.

Thanks again <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="images/icons/smile.gif" /> ,

I've got and add-a leave and 4in lomger than stock shacklesin the rear. Up front I flipped my ball joints and matt made 1/2in balljoint spacers than cranked my t-bars up so the front is 1.5in lower than my rear sweet. oh yeah on my 91 trooper
