Help!!! Failing alternator #143257 06/18/02 03:30 AM

Couple days ago my alternator stoped charging or to be more accurate will charge only from 0 to 2000 rpm and from 4000 and up.
The dealer wants 600 $ for the replacement.
400$ for new alternator and 200 $ work. I think that is outrageous. I can do the replacement my self but can any body tell me where I can get good alternator for a decent price. Also any advice in assmling/disassembling will be highly.
Thanks in advance.

What engine is it for? IF you ant to upgrade your Alternator, I know that Mean Green Makes a 170 amp ALternator for the 2.6 and most likely for the other Isuzu engines as well. You can look them up on a search engine.

If it is a 2.6 getting the alternator in and out of the truck is real easy. Take the smog pump out, remove all the belts, unbolt the two bolts that hold the Alternator in. Reverse that to put it back in.

Good Luck

Joel

If you're comfortable putting it in yourself, or have someone who can help you, you might want check out Autozone.com. I got a rebuilt alt. for my 3.2 for around $130. You can return the core at a store but they don't usually carry it in stock.

It's been in my truck for 5 months and no problems with it so far.

Thanks guys. It is for the 3.2 V 6. The altermator is stuck undernead on the right side of the engine. I will have to remove some tubing and the battery to get to it.
I am looking for a deal on alternator right know.

Getting the Wheeling Fever
Thanks guys. It is for the 3.2 V 6. The altermator is stuck undernead on the right side of the engine. I will have to remove some tubing and the battery to get to it.

I just replaced the alternator on my 3.2L V-6 this past February. It was a PITA, but definitely do-able. It took me 2 hours just to remove the old one. Half of that was spent trying to figure out how I was gonna manuever that sucker out of its nook after everything was disconnected.

I ended up having to undo the radiator hose and remove the upper fan shroud. I also had to remove my front passenger-side tire to get at one of the connections.

I am looking for a deal on alternator right know.

Bought mine used at All Hyundai and Isuzu for $95 (an extra $20 gets you a lifetime warranty). But if you don't want to wait for shipping, sounds like Autozone is your best bet.

Good luck,

Mike

Body Damage is Cool
I just got done with this. You need to take the alternator out and look at the plug. There are two different ones, a round and a square plug. The round one is pretty cheap. the squared one is NOT. After you find out what kind of plug you have, call merlin. Randii has my alternator pics uploaded here someplace...

Easiest way to get the alternator out is thru the bottom, taking off the skid plate, and the sway bar. once those are out of the way, it's pretty much a cake walk...sort of.

I did a writeup on it in another thread...I'll look for it and post a link

Thanks a lot guys. I did it cople of days ago. I had to go with the dealers alt beause the Amigo is my daily driver and my battery was dying. It took me 45 minutes to take the old one out and put the new in, with the help of a friend. I did not even remove the roll bar. It was a tight squeeze but doable. The only problem was a tube that was going out of the oil filter. I had to push it a little.
I am still looking for more powerfull one tough. I need more power to be able to hook up some of my vet equipment for farm visits.
Any info is welcom
Thanks again.
