is my exhaust stainless steel? #146486 01/23/03 07:53 PM

I saw in the power vault thread about the Trooper exhaust that it is thought that 98+ Troopers have a stainless exhaust. This has got me wondering. I am interested in a poer vault system if it ever gets developed because it is ss. If our systems are ss i could get away with just a muffler and not worry about the rest of the exhaust rotting through during the long life of my truck.
Please fill me in on what you know.

TIA

Am I right in thinking that stainless steel doesn't rust? I ask this because my stock exhaust has rust all over, but I thought it was stainless steeel.

Thanks

You shouldn't have to worry about it rusting too much and falling apart. My truck is 14 years old and the stock pipes are rusty, but they are still solid. If you keep the underside cleaned well (as in every time you go to the car wash, wash the underside as well) then you shouldn't have to worry about the pipes rusting through even in places where they salt the roads.

Thank you for straitening this out for me. I just didn't want to go through the expense of getting a ss muffler and then having the pipes rot out.

the pipes are really good on our trucks, well designed on the Rodeo with few bends. The only reason people change the pipe is to go with a larger dia. for more flow.
