One thing (so far the only ) I don't like on my 2001 Trooper is the lack of storage facilities in the trunk. Ok, there are the pockets in the doors but they are not big either. And there is this nice hidden compartment under the rear bench. Very easy access if you have a child seat mounted on the rear bench.
Where do you store you stuff like tools, first aid kit and other small things?
I was already thinking of building myself some kind of boxes above the wheels on each side. But before I start, does anybody know if there are some companies that have some kind of boxes like this? Or has anybody any other ideas for storage boxes in the trunk.
Thanks Stefan

You are gonna have to build a box like I did, because I couldn't find anyone who had these built already and besides, I like the ones I built myself because I know they are good quality and won't be falling apart when I'm rompin around im my troop. Later, Nick

I just throw all my staff in the trunk:
1. ax 2. cables 3. small spare fuel tank 4. chains 5. some water 6. tow cables 7. shovel 8. knifes 9. first aid medications 10. snacks 11. matches 12. maps 13. etc etc etc
seems fine. Looks perfectly ugly.

Yeah what he said. There are a few of us who have built raised platforms for the back and store things under it. It then lets you carry cargo on top of it like you normally would. Some have gotten pretty elaborate with slide out drawers. Mine was down quickly with just a raised board with open access through tailgate. I also have a removable panel in center of it to acces things farther back without having to unload everthing. Do a search, there are a lot of great solutions to this.

@RodeoXS I thought about this solution with the second floor as well already. But I need access to my tie-down hooks that are integrated in the floor of the trunk. And another problem are the child seat anchor mounts in the trunk. By now I have not figured out how to combine this without spending too much money. But thanks for the pictures. It looks good.

Misc stuff: http://www.rubbermaid.com/hpd/consumer/product/list.jhtmlTools, soft tool bag similar to this. Home depot has them for about $25

Sorry don't have any pics-no digi camera but I'm workin on getting one soon so maybe then. I built a box on each side window height from the back of the seat to my rear doors. I have an 86 so not much back there besides sheet metal! You might have to do something different but you get the basic idea. Its squared off inside over the wheels and screwed into the side of the body and then carpeted over with a hinged top. Every application is different because you never know what your gonna have in the back. I use mine for tow straps, jumper cables, a few select tools, and anything else that seems to collect back there. Whatever I put in there usually stay from the rubber mat I have on the bottom. Hope this helps, Nick

You could probably get one cheaper that doesn't have the name of a tool company on it, but $25 isn't bad.
