What may cause an engine to "over rev" when idling? I am talking about a 1990 3L. I e-mailed a guy who has a Monty for sale and he indicated that the only problem was over-reving. I believe he meant after one shifts to neutral or park after the engine has warmed up you get a high idle. OK, anyone encountered this problem in their 1990 monty's?

I think there was a service bulletin about sticking throttle cable, especially in severly cold weather. Maybe he has this problem? I have never had my throttle cable stick, but then again I grease mine every so often <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="images/icons/wink.gif" />

Its a 1990 Montero, it should have a Cruise Control! I mention that because I recently retrofit a cruise control onto my 1989 Dodge Raider from a 1991 Montero and found that I had to disconnect the old throttle cable, and replace it with both of the new ones that are part of the Cuise Control Servo.
Well, the first time I started the Raider after the installation, it roared up to 3200 RMP's in park. As it turns out I had to adjust the tension setting on the throttle cable between the throttle body, and the cruise control servo.
I hope this helps. <img src="http://www.slshipp.com/zoo/ayala/trucking/cruisecontrol/donor/CCD001.jpg" alt=" - " />
