Roll Me Over
Ted,
I'll check out my suppliers this week. I've been letting my own problem with a leaking tank go for over a year now, and your earlier post reminded me that I should take care of it. So, I'll let you know. As far as I remember that last time I was at the yards, there were many Raiders/Monteros with untouched underbodies and I assume the Tanks are still there.
-how could I ignore a problem like that for a year? - It only leaks when I put a lot in, so of course, I never fill it over half

markg, as far as i know the two engines used different tanks, as did the 4dr. that is what is making my search so difficult. i need to find a junked 2dr V6. if someone knows this not to be true, please correct me, but everywhere i've called asked if i had the 4 or the 6. any calls anyone could make to their local parts yard would be greatly appreciated. hopefully i'll be taking a roadtrip this weekend in the trooper and coming home with a gas tank for the real truck. thanks everyone for trying to help me out. ted.

AFAIK, the 4 and 6 cyl tanks are different, one for carby and one for FI. How easily they'd be adaptable is anyone's guess. Probably not worth the trouble though.
GUY, I hope you haven't been considering any welding in the company of your red beast lately. Could be a "blast"... When I was on the east coast I had used this type of repair with good results.
There are also coating that can be applied to the inside that will seal the tank. Try eastwood.
A shop with tank repair experiance can weld a properly cleaned tank. I have done them myself.
the tank must be cleaned and either have air pumped through it to prevent buildup of flamable gasses or filled with an inert gas.
This is for an shop that has experiance with this type of repair only! 89 Raider:
Sorry to find out that I had gotten the last gas tank for your model in New Jersey. My local junkyard here in upstate New york put out a search and found it in Jersey. I got it about a year and a half ago. The top of my newly acquired Raider's tank looked like Swiss cheese. I hope that you can find one through a search at a bargain. Mine was $175, including shipping. Good Luck!
