Read it all, it's a very small site.
Is this happening in your part of the world?
I believe it's big in the US.

http://www.nosuv.org.nz/index.shtml

I found two or three intelligent points, and figured the rest was written buy someone who rides a pushbike.
The problem is, governments listen to this kinda stuff, (the green movement in Oz is getting bigger, Bugger!). Tracks get closed without consultation, etc, and there is an increasing anti 4WD, anti fishing, anti hunting, anti "have a free life", anti Jack, movement, happening here.
So for the sake of inner city votes, we suffer!
Anyway, if you have this problem where you are, how do you handle it?

I may be a bit piston account of two too many martini's, but some things annoy me.
Tolerance, Neil. Tolerance!

Seriously I really hope the person peddling this bullshit gets hit by a stupid young giggly girl driving a fu$%^ng Toyota Starlet while she is trying to talk on her mobile phone and apply makeup while doing 60kph in heavy traffic . (This scenario is not fiction I have seen it again and again around town, some of these young girls are the worst drivers because they don't pay attention to what is happening around them ).
His or her stupid idea that somehow all 4x4 drivers are dangerous is absurd. I see more crashes involving small cars than 4x4s and there are more 4x4s per head of population in Northern Oz than anywhere else in the country.
My missus was most offended that this person said if you need an SUV (not a commonly used term in Australia, we would normally say four wheel drive, this shows how much they are influenced by propaganda that is coming from the idiots peddling this line in the US)to tow a boat, 'you should get a smaller boat'.
How dare some lamo tree hugging hippie ponce who has probably never travelled outsie 'Un Zud' tell me what I can and can't own .
I think they should go back to fornicating with sheep, which I am sure all this person is good for !

Unfortunately a lot of city pollies are being fed the dribble portrayed on that website by chardonnay sipping, latte drinking pseudo intellectual, lycra clad , bike riding wanker, rent a crowd yuppies, and they are believing it!!

I personally find it offensive when I see some lycra clad yuppie meathead on his $10000 pushbike, talking on the mobile phone stuck to his head while dodging in and out of traffic, riding through red lights and forcing pedestrians off the footpath whingeing about how dangerous it is for pushbikes . If they obeyed the road rules they wouldn't get run over .

Well I won't rant anymore it's just that this really gets me worked up and I can't help myself......

Craig.

Damnnnnnn Craig, now I have seen some rants here before, but none left my computer screen smoking like yours! I will be the first to appologize for the ignorant, affluent American Preservationist idiots influencing other countries like Australia and Canada. Its just as bad as pushing your religion on other countries that dont want it, and that sort of thing. These same people want to see all SUVs eliminated, access banded to humans for 80% of Turtle Island(North America), No more mining, grazing, logging or any other use of public lands....... We now have ethical, scientific, economic, recreational and environmental reasons to stop these bozos.

"Holden (Izuzu) Jerckaroo "
"Izuzu Lamehorn "

Wow, how could I have been so blind!

I am a changed man!

I was reading this, and the whole time I was thinking, oh, he's not talking about me .. he's talking about other people with 4x4s... then I got to the part about "excuses" - "i need it for 4x4 driving".. and he told me that I should get another hobby instead.

Well, that's all I needed to hear! This man is brilliant! All this time I was driving around aimlessly in the wilderness to "awkward places" because I thought that I was morally obligated to do so, but this guy pointed out that I can simply get another hobby!

Wow!

I believe I will take up the hobby of couch restraint. See, those couches, when you're not home... they'll cavort around the house like they own the place, drink your beer, all that crap... but not mine baby! not anymore!!! I'm gonna just sit on my couch all day long and watch the TeleGod! That's the only ecologically friendly "activity" out there, and it lets me keep an eye, and a butt on that pesky couch of mine.

Well, now that I've had my life changed by this dude, I'd better go and push my 4x4s off a cliff into a ravine, because I wouldn't want anyone else to use them either and destroy the planet while getting in car accidents and massively increase the chances of killing small children. Who wants to help me?

Using a kiwi, a kangaroo and a koala to promote your anti-SUV sentiments is the most stoooopid idea I have ever seen.

That depends what you mean by 'four wheel driving'. If you mean aimlessly driving about the outback for the sake of travelling to awkward places in motorised transport (as opposed to trying to get to some place that can't be reached reasonably by an alternative method) then please find some other way to use your time. Preferably something that involves exercise and doesn't destroy our planet.

For interesting reading here are the statistics for 1990-1998 for 4x4 accidents in Oz. Notice how more pedestrians were killed by passenger cars than by 4x4s.

WOW amazing how this topic sounds so much like the pro vs. anti gun issue. Not really on the same level but very similar. Particularly how they go into the safety BS about saving every one from themselves and protecting the children. And the idea of finding another way to occupy your time. Sounds like the Hillary Clinton crap when she told gun owners to take up reading.

Between my guns, reptiles and 4wd'in.I guess I just have to many hobbies that are non PC. .

Back in the late 80s when Edward Abby settled in Tucson, Arizona he bought himself big, red, 70s Cadillac 4-door. His reason being that by owning a gas guzzler he would do his part to hasten the demise of the fossil fuel reserves.

So, in a way, our choice of vehicles fits right in with the line of thinking of one of the fathers of modern environmentalism.

That loser should be giving us a pat on the back.
