Hi Keri and Don,

You probably don't remember me (Walt with the BlaZeR2), but I ran Behind the Rocks at Crawloween 2002 with you.

I'm having exhaust work done in the near future and remembering how nice Keri's rig sounded, thought I might come close to that with the same set-up on my 4.3.

Seems like I remember it having a glass pack into a turbo muffler, is that right? If so, what brand (part #'s or other info) were they. Also what diameter is the exhaust pipe from the mufflers back. Any info that Keri, Don, or anyone else that knows will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

By the way, any of you going to ZuZoo VI?

Walt,

It's Kary, not Keri...

His exhaust is all custom, from the headers to the tail pipe.

Kary mandrel-bent the pipe, and welded it together in sections, some only a few inches long.
The header was modified to fit the Mitsu. One of the pipes had to be shortened, as the original went around the steering.

I suspect that any high flow muffler with a straightened exhaust would get you similar results, but remember that he's modified many of the engine components as well, and so results may differ...

Hi Walt;
Not sure about ZUZU just yet.
My exhaust is a little different, and not something you are likely to get at an exhaust shop. I built my system by hand and don't even want to think about how many hours I have in it. It's all in the details, right?...............
But here goes.
JBA/custom headers-ceramic coated, 2 1/4" Y-pipe made of u-bends with a 3" coupler with O2 sensor mount, Moroso "spiral flow" Race muffler #94051 where Cat would normaly go, 3" mandrel bent tube to a Magnaflow #12259 Muffler, 3" mandrel bent tube tail pipe to the end of the rig. You can drop a 3" ball through the system from the Moroso muffler back. I have a ball/socket type connecter at y-pipe to first muffler, no gasket, and no leaks with some movement. I have used the stock GM springs on the header to y-pipe connection, with custom hardware to make assembly simplier. I use Stage-8 fasteners on my headers.
Almost 9,000 miles on it now, and no problems with the exhaust. My y-pipe is going out in a week or two to be ceramic coated for better heat reduction. It's not a problem and that was always what was going to be done, but there wasn't enough time before Moab, and since, I've just had too much fun driving/wheeling it.
If I remember correctly your rig will have a 1 3/4" y-pipe on it. The '96' and later L35 motors use a much smaller system than the CPI L35's did. My system might be too much for your rig, But I don't know all your spec's, and needs. just make sure it is mounted up high, so it will stay put.

Thanks for the replies. Sorry about the mispelling of your name Kary. Sounds like it's way more than I need, had no idea it was that custom. Looks like I will have to go with a single in, single out catback system from a local shop. Just need to figure out which turbo muffler to go with. Most everyone on the ZR2.com board run Flowmaster 40 or 50 series. No header work to be done so duplicating the sound of your exhaust probably couldn't happen. I think with my stock engine the 3" pipe will not give me enough back pressure and will lose torque, so I will probably go with 2.5" or 2.25" instead.

Thanks again, and hope to see you guys in Moab!

Flowmaster did NOT recommend one of their mufflers for me. I called them a couple of times, and after telling them what I wanted, they said that they did not have a muffler that would do what I wanted.
I answer to just about anything.
