87 4Runner - want F&R L/S's - what are my options? #13577 01/20/03 08:30 PM

I know about the obvious TruTrac's, but what are the other options? I would assume to run a Supra in the rear, I would need to round up a V6 diff - correct? How about the front - anything out there?

Don't you look in the 4x4Wire Toyota Tech section? <img border="0" title="" alt="[Razz]" src="images/icons/tongue.gif" /> And I quote: "The Supra carrier will only retrofit into the V6 third member, not the more common 4 cylinder third member."

This still might be the most affordable option for you David, as unfortunately most limited slips cost as much as lockers new. Auburn Gear makes posi's for the front and rear, but they are expensive. TruTracs are expensive too for that matter. Is there a Gearless Locker or Quick-Lok application for Toyotas?

Isn't there a Supra 7.5" LSD application? <img border="0" title="" alt="[Confused]" src="images/icons/confused.gif" />

thanks... and yes, I read that <img border="0" title="" alt="[Razz]" src="images/icons/tongue.gif" />

I was wondering if there were any other options out there. I tend to be on the cheap side of things - and since this is just for a little more traction for the DD I have no intentions of spending too much on anything.

I have run a lickright up front in IFS before, and for a DD that is NOT something I want for this use. Shoot, I would even settle for just a L/S for the rear - but right now that means tracking down a V6 diff AND a Supra L/S... and that starts adding up fast.

I guess that it costs just as much to make a limited slip as it does to make a locker. Your best bet then David (outside of horse trading for a V6 third) is to look for someone taking a limited slip out of their rig and replacing it with a locker.

Whats is your price range? I found my detroit true trac for as low as 315$ when other places charge up to 450$. I got mine from DTS Drive Train Specialists. In the long run the true trac will pay for itself because you don't need to run special synthetic$$ or replace any clutches when they wear out.

Body Damage is Cool
There certainly is a 7.5" Supra LSD that will fit in the front diff, and they can usually be had for $50 or less at the local P&P.

These were the optional LSD's used in the Gen. I and Gen II Supras. You have to remove a little (1/4" or so?) of excess material on the ends of the front truck stub axles to get them to work with the Supra diffs, but otherwise i believe they are plug and play.

Easiest way to identify these diffs is from the axle code: you want Fxx3, where F = 7.5" and the final 3 = two pinion LSD.

Another identifier: the LSD's had a finned rear cover with a sticker that reads "LSD oil only".

HTH,

Jeff
